Every Week Is Fashion Week

It's Fashion Week Somewhere

As Paris Fashion Week 2024 comes to a close, it's hard to ignore the buzz September has brought to the fashion scene. Whether willingly or unwillingly, this past month you probably heard of Fashion Week happening somewhere—be it London, New York, Milan, or as I’ve mentioned Paris. While the designer catalogs spanned beyond African Fashion designers, it’s of no surprise that our interest and eyes were peeled for exciting designs from African Designers.

In this newsletter, we’ve highlighted the incredible artists who brought their wearable art to the global stage this season:

Paris Fashion Week

Laduma Ngxokolo, the creative force behind Maxhosa Africa made it to Paris Fashion Week, with a spring collection that seamlessly integrated history, symbolism, and traditional craft techniques like beading into airy, contemporary silhouettes. Inspired by traditional artifacts and magnificent beading from the Xhosa culture, Maxhosa Africa never fails to wow us.

Thebe Magugu brought a personal touch to their collection, showcasing a beautiful fusion between the Malawian and South African culture as seen through the use of the Chitenge fabric and l’oeil cow prints.

New York Fashion Week

Kilentar made their NYFW debut, making their mark at the shows Green Stage. Their SS25 (Summer/Spring) collection celebrated true African craftsmanship and once again set the standard for sustainability and ethical practices.

Ese Azenabor showcased her beautiful and colourful collection at NYFW, incorporating florals, sequins and hand-beaded crystals, stones, and pearls onto fabrics like tulle and lace. The Nigerian-born designer made a striking mark with her evening wear collection.

London Fashion Week

Tolu Coker’s SS25 Collection was a love letter to her mum and paid homage to her Yoruba culture. With graphics inspired by the 60’s and 70’s, “the collection was also an exploration of the significance of living room spaces in the collective psyches of London’s myriad immigrant communities”.
